Candy Richards Talking Junk
I recently got a chance to talk to Candy Richards aka “Junk” from the second season of VH1’s Real Chance of Love. This former radio personality and Core Model dished the dirt about being her true feelings for Chance, being in the house with a bunch of girls, and her goals for life after the show.
How did you get selected for Real Chance of Love 2?
I got an email from VH1 about the casting and I auditioned. Me and a friend were going. Initially I wasn’t trying out, but going to support her. When we got there, people told me to try out and I made it but my friend didn’t! She was really supportive, though. Those dudes weren’t her type anyway.
So I can tell from watching the show you like Chance. Is he really your type?
I think Chance is really cute. I followed Chance when he was on I Love New York. I told them I liked Chance the first time I saw him. I hate to say it, but I think it’s his bad attitude. I like a challenge and I had to compete for him.
How did you convince the producers that you actually like him and didn’t just want to be on TV?
I don’t know how I pulled it off. I busted out a freestyle for my casting tape about Chance. A lot of the girls on these shows really don’t like the guys. That wasn’t the case with me. I’m almost ashamed to say I really did like him!
How does it differ from other shows you’ve seen such as Flavor of Love or Charm School?
Charm school comes after you’re on the first love show. I couldn’t have been on Flavor of Love because I couldn’t stand to kiss Flavor Flav. I could stand Real, Chance or Ray J. The difference was I really liked Chance. With Flav it wouldn’t have been genuine and he probably would have seen right through me! People tend to think on these shows its all acting. It wasn’t an act at all for me.
Would you take back of your actions on the show or would you do it all again?
I would definitely do it again. If I had to do it again, I would. I’m not ashamed of anything I did. I represented myself respectfully as a lady. I got into it in a house with a lot of girls, but that’s normal. But, my mom and dad can sit and watch it and say, “Candy didn’t embarrass us.”
What was it like being in the house with all those girls?
It felt like college all over again. It would get annoying sometimes. Some people don’t know how to shut up when you’re ready to go to sleep. I kept a hand full of friends. There are three that I’m really close with.
We’re still watching the show waiting for the outcome. I know you can’t tell us yet what happened, but what’s your ultimate goal now that the show is over for you?
I was a radio personality in N.C. I would like to host television, but I wouldn’t mind going back into corporate America in marketing or public relations. I went to school for Mass Communications, Radio and Television at Winston Salem State. I’m working on my MBA.
So your life’s dream wasn’t to be a model, huh?
I’m not a model. I just take really nice pictures. I interviewed Big Boi when “Purple Ribbon” was really hot and he had me come to Atlanta to do some videos. I went down there and became one of his Purple Ribbon Models. I did Young Jeezy “I Get A Lot of That” I just did a Playaz Circle video recently as well.
Check Candy aka “Junk” out Monday nights on VH1 to see what the outcome is of the show. Also, meet her in person along with other Core Models and their CEO Tony Neal at Midwest Leak Magazine’s Circle City Classic party on October 3, 2009 in Indianapolis.
