1st Round Draft Pick: Sylver Karatz
By Erica EKlass Pierce
How long have you been in the game? I’ve actually been doing music since I was like 14, but I recently got back to my music a year ago.
So how long have you been with Beat Gang? I’ve been affiliated with Beat Gang for about 6 years now.
What do you bring to the table as a female artist? Of course I bring the lyrics, style and swag, but I don’t like to single myself out as a female artist. I’m just bringing music.
You are often compared to Nicki Minaj. How do you feel about that? Honestly, I don’t like being compared to her. I feel like we have two different styles and two different sounds. As far as the colored hair, I’ve been this way. This is me. But on the other hand, if I am being compared to a female that’s holding the game down right now, that’s a good thing.Be sure to cop her album y’all Pink Friday 11/23/2010. She sells, then that opens up doors for us (females).
So you know I gotta ask- how did you come up with the track “P*ssy Swaggin?” I was in Atlanta at the studio with Gucci, Waka Flocka, Shawty Lo, and Rocko. They had just made “Amnesia” and Waka something about swag. So I said “Man I’m p*ssy swaggin.” Waka said I should make it a song, and that’s what I did on the road home from Atlanta. All it’s saying is if you’re a female and your swag’s up, we doin good.
What can we expect next from you? I’m droppin my mixtape “P*ssy Swaggin” at the Ohio Hip-Hop Awards September 18th. It’s hosted by DJ Dimepiece and DJ Woogie and features Waka Flocka among other artists.
What is your goal as a Midwest artist? Well I am originally from Miami, but I was raised and stay in Cincinnati. So, I want to open up doors and put the Midwest on the map. We have a lot of talent- both male and female. A lot of people have been hating since my name started buzzing, but “hate is the new love.”
